Redwire Corporation announced that it has successfully 3D bioprinted the first human knee meniscus on orbit using its upgraded 3D BioFabrication Facility (BFF) on the International Space Station (ISS). This milestone opens the door to improved treatments for meniscal injuries, one of the most common injuries for U.S. Service Members.

The print returned to Earth onboard the SpaceX Crew-6 Mission for analysis following successful print operations in July. Before returning to Earth, the print was cultured for 14 days on the ISS in Redwire’s Advanced Space Experiment Processor (ADSEP). The print was conducted as part of the BFF-Meniscus-2 Investigation with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Center for Biotechnology (4D Bio3), a biomedical research center that explores and adapts promising biotechnologies for warfighter benefit. The investigation was conducted by NASA astronauts Frank Rubio, Warren “Woody” Hoburg, and Stephen Bowen, and UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi.

Redwire’s 3D Bioprinter Successfully Installed on Space Station and Prepped for Upcoming Meniscus Print

Redwire’s 3D BioFabrication Facility (BFF) has transformed the bioprinting space and will continue to do so as America’s first bioprinter with a permanent home on the International Space Station (ISS). In late January 2023, NASA astronauts successfully installed an upgraded BFF that allows greater temperature control when printing with bioinks that are sensitive to temperatures, as well as Redwire’s Advanced Space Experiment Processor (ADSEP), used in conjunction with BFF. Both payloads launched on Northrop Grumman’s 18th commercial resupply mission to the ISS on November 7, 2022. BFF will be used to produce a full 3D printed human knee meniscus with the BFF-Meniscus-2 investigation, which will explore how space bioprinting could help treat meniscal injuries affecting U.S. military service members.

Redwire Announces Completion of Business Combination with Genesis Park Acquisition Corp.

(NYSE: GNPK) (“Genesis Park”), a publicly traded special purpose acquisition company, announced today the completion of their previously announced business combination (the “Business Combination”). The Business Combination was approved by Genesis Park shareholders at an Extraordinary General Meeting held on September 1, 2021. Upon completion of the Business Combination, the combined company changed its name to Redwire Corporation (“Redwire”). Redwire’s shares of common stock and warrants are expected to commence trading on the NYSE on September 3, 2021 under the new ticker symbols “RDW” and “RDW WS,” respectively. The transaction values Redwire at a $620 million pro forma enterprise value.
